Passive Drone Detection
Passive sensing allows a counter-UAS system to observe its environment without depending on an active transmission from the sensor emplacement.
Why Passive Sensing Matters
Active sensing can be highly capable, but transmitting energy can also create a detectable signature. Passive approaches instead use available observations and local processing, which can be valuable where signature management and remote deployment matter.
Beyond RF-Dependent Detection
Not every unmanned aircraft presents the same radio-frequency behavior. A counter-UAS architecture that does not depend exclusively on detecting a control link can complement other sensing approaches and support detection of a broader set of operating conditions.
Part of a Complete Chain
Sensing is only the beginning. Orion’s architecture connects observations to onboard AI for identification and tracking. See edge AI for counter-UAS or the ARCHER MK3.
